New York--Installment #4

Our final day in New York! With Marne and Aubrey to show us around, we decided to hit the Central Park Zoo and playground. The zoo is small and just the right size for little legs. We got to see the sea lions do tricks during their feeding and got a close up view of a polar bear. After the zoo, we ate more hot dogs in the park--but I accidentally bought the bigger hot dogs. After I paid, the man told me they were spicy. Gee thanks. "But not too spicy, don't worry." They were too spicy.

Near the zoo is a playground with an awesome rock slide that the boys loved. We spent at least an hour just running up and down the slide. It was interesting as a mother to sit and watch all the nannies taking care of native NY children. Several children were bilingual which was pretty cool. Very different culture than Canon City.

Playing on the slide did a pretty good job of tiring the boys out, but we weren't done yet. I was determined to get to Chinatown. It was a good thing Marne came back because Josh refused to get on the subway with out David or Marne leading the way. After yesterday, I was simply not good enough. The boys had their caricatures done, we bought toy taxis and Spongebob Squarepants shirts, and we stopped at a Chinese bakery (the only place where we could use a bathroom if we bought something).

David met us after work and we headed back uptown for dinner at a small (teeny, tiny, miniscule) but popular and fun restaurant called Serendipity. Jake was so tired that he slept through the walk to the subway station, waiting on the platform while 3 trains went by, the subway ride, and the twenty minute wait outside the restaurant. Incredible. It was a fun place that had huge portions. Josh ordered a $8 hot dog (of course) and we had the peanut butter sundae for dessert. Josh was upset because it wasn't chocolate but somehow seemed to get over his disappointment enough to polish off the whole thing.

It was an amazing trip and a great way to spend spring break. Thanks to David and Marne for letting us invade their living room and dominate their lives for 4 days. We can't wait to come back!

  2. What a fun trip that you absolutely deserve! You are making me want to go to NYC--though I admit I've only gone alone--never with a child (let alone two). Good for you--it looks like it was a wonderful time for all.

  3. Sounds like the boys had a trip of a lifetime! Your subway ride reminded me of the time your Dad and I went walking around Chicago's Miracle Mile for shopping. The walk was getting too long so we took the bus, missed the last stop for the shopping and ended up in the suburbs outside Chicago!! It must be heredity! You can blame us. It was an adventure and you are only out your time, and what is a little time when you are having an adventure!
